Dear Teachers,

It is with great pleasure we officially invite you to our 2023 program Symphonic Encounters program. 

Modést Orchestra is offering an interactive orchestral adventure concert series that will re-engage students with live music.
Presented by Mark Grandison and Panagiotis Karamanos in an informative and engaging style, Encounters will feature music that highlights the various instruments and sections of the orchestra in a fun and informative way. Kinaesthetic, singing, body percussion and real-time composition activities will offer multi-modal paths into the rich colours, gestures and textures of orchestral music.

These Encounters concerts will feature the following works:
Years 3-6 - Kodaly, The Viennese Musical Clock
Years 7-8 - Bizet, Carmen Prelude
Years 9-11 - Holst, The Planets (Jupiter and Mars)

Our concerts will be held at the Conservatorium of Music Verbrugghen Hall on two days: 
Wednesday 26 July and Thursday 27 July
  • Years 3-6 - Form and Fun in music - 10:00am - 11:00am 
  • Years 7-8 - Repetition, Variation and Contrast in music- 11:30am - 12:30am 
  • Years 9-11 - How to multi-task when listening to music - 1:30pm - 2:45pm

Meet the Educators

Panagiotis Karamanos
Panagiotis Karamanos studied conducting under John Lynch and Richard Gill. In 2019 he began teaching at Kambala as a classroom teacher and Band Conductor. Panagiotis is a graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music who is passionate about the education of students from K-12. 
He is a an experienced trumpeter who has played with many ensembles under the baton of world renowned conductors.

Mark Grandison
Mark Grandison studied composition with Richard Meale in Adelaide, South Australia, before moving to Sydney in 1994 to become Director of Music at Kambala School. 
As a leading secondary Music educator, Grandison has built a world-class Music Department in Sydney. He presents professional development workshops for teachers and delivers composition and musicology master classes for Kambala and other schools.
